Tony Whitham lives a quiet life in London. A good job and a sexy fiancée Sharon, from Essex, though things between them have been a bit rocky lately. The social unrest of the 1970's - Vietnam demos, strikes, power cuts, unburied bodies, vote in the Common Market - largely pass them by. That's love for you.
Then he gets caught up in a jewellery heist. A dead policeman, a bag of diamonds on one hand and a swan-off in the other, means he has to run. His lawyer friend Will tries to bring him in safely, Sharon gets mad. The crooks wanting their loot and a bent copper wanting revenge for his brother, and the diamonds of course, are after him.
Picked up in Edinburgh by Big Ken and his gang, but sans diamonds, Tony is brought back to London. His workmate and very good friend Bunty helps him escape and they flee to the Continent in her clapped out Mini. Pursued across France, through the Pyrenees, into Spain a desperate Tony not only has to manage their escape but an ever angrier Sharon and an increasingly attractive Bunty.
Trapped in the Tabernas Desert there is no escape. Tony has definitely got to sort it all out now. Sort of.
